摩訶迦葉因觀世間六塵變壞，唯以空寂修於滅盡，妙法宣明，銷滅諸漏。今揀雖稱妙法，乃是內塵，憑仗此修，豈越能所，覺非能所，故非圓通，遍圓涉通也。

Mahākāśyapa, by contemplating the transformation and decay of the six worldly dusts, cultivated cessation through emptiness and quiescence alone, whereupon wonderful dharmas were clearly proclaimed and all outflows were extinguished. Here it is selected out: although called wonderful dharmas, they are still internal dusts; relying upon this to cultivate, how could it surpass subject and object? Awareness is not subject and object, and therefore it is not perfect penetration; 'pervasive' (bian) means universally penetrating (yuan she tong).
