Pilindavatsa, by contemplating the sensation of pain, realized that the pure mind is without sensation and without pain, and shedding the body to remain in pure awareness, attained the fruit of non-learning. Here it is said: the body faculty that perceives and the touch that is perceived borrow their existence from each other, each lacking self-nature; by analogous reasoning, neither is a perfect contemplation; the knowing and the non-knowing differ and each has its limit, not merging with each other; therefore it is selected out.
