Subhūti, over eons past, had attained an unhindered mind; from this he observed the ten directions becoming empty, the nature of emptiness perfectly luminous, and suddenly entered the Tathāgata's precious luminous ocean of emptiness, sharing the Buddha's perception. Here it means: the mental faculty contains confused thoughts; if one renders it quiescent and clears it away, in the end there is no perception. If one cultivates relying on this, how could ideation be escaped? It can also mean: looking toward the clear awareness of true illumination, there must be no perception, which is precisely the awareness of non-knowing; one should know that whoever has perception has not yet escaped false thoughts.
