婬為生死根本，反之則不續矣。《圓覺》云「一切眾生皆因婬欲而正性命。」當知輪迴愛為根本，由有諸欲助發愛性，是故能令生死相續。

Lust is the root of birth and death; reversing it, there is no continuation. The *Sūtra of Complete Enlightenment* says: "All sentient beings have their proper life-nature because of lustful desire." One should know that craving is the root of saṃsāra; because there are various desires assisting and stimulating the nature of craving, they are able to cause the continuous succession of birth and death.
