6.358

此戒雖與小乘名同，而持隨有異，此則一一內防心念，輕重等持。彼則事遂緣成，輕重隨戒。故云先斷心婬。故論云：心生則種種法生，心滅則種種法滅。故與小乘持戒全別。

Although this precept shares the same name as in the Hinayāna, its observance differs: here, one inwardly guards mind-moments in every instance, observing both light and grave equally. There, an offense is constituted when the act is fulfilled according to conditions, and gravity depends on the precept. Hence it says, "first sever lust in the mind." Thus the treatise says: When the mind arises, various phenomena arise; when the mind ceases, various phenomena cease. Therefore, it is entirely different from the Hinayāna observance of precepts.
