6.364

非戒不禪，非禪不慧。戒根不淨，所習禪慧那得淨乎？以不淨故，雖有如無。戒定慧亡，自成輪轉，終非聖果。

Without precepts there is no dhyāna; without dhyāna there is no wisdom. If the root of precepts is impure, how could the practiced dhyāna and wisdom be pure? Because they are impure, though present, they are as if nonexistent. With precepts, concentration, and wisdom ruined, one naturally transmigrates and ultimately fails to attain the noble fruit.
