梵音阿那婆婁吉底輸，此云觀世音，從能所境智以立名也。值佛觀法皆其所師，師資相承，無相違耳。聞思修慧諸行通途，無有一佛不以音聲而化群品，無有一機不從耳根聞教解悟，由是彼佛教從此入。

In Sanskrit, it is *avalokiteśvara*, which is translated here as Guan-shi-yin ('Perceiver of the World's Sounds'); its name is established based on subject and object, realm and wisdom. Meeting the Buddha and contemplating the Dharma both derived from his teacher; teacher and disciple succeeded one another without discrepancy. The wisdoms of hearing, contemplation, and cultivation are the common path for all practices; there is no Buddha who does not transform the masses through voice, and no capacity that does not awaken to understanding through hearing the teaching with the ear faculty. For this reason, that Buddha taught him to enter through this.
