二、正為分別，二：一、除迷真起。妄為立位之因，然地位之興本由迷悟，妄迷真起，本性即虛，故有斷分。斷即成悟，悟有淺深，故成階降。階降既分，名位斯別，若不迷真焉有斯位？故須敘也。

Second, the actual analysis, in two parts: first, eliminating delusion and revealing reality. Delusion is the cause for establishing stages. However, the emergence of stages originates fundamentally from delusion and awakening; when delusion arises from reality, its original nature is illusory, and therefore there is an aspect of severing. Severing is awakening, and because awakening has shallow and deep degrees, gradations are formed. Once gradations are distinguished, names and stages differ accordingly; if one were not deluded about reality, how could there be these stages? Therefore, they must be set forth.
