7.171

These are the latter four coarse marks. From the preceding discrimination arising in the mind, it gradually becomes coarser, grasping at objects, reckoning names, and performing various karmic actions; hence it is said, 'perfuming so as to form karma.' The two karmas of aversion and attachment correspond respectively to the realms and destinies; karmic resonance serves as the cause, and retributive response serves as the effect, whereupon there are the retributions of mutual arising and mutual cessation. Sexual desire serves as the cause for mutual arising, while killing and stealing serve as the causes for mutual cessation. These are the two continuities of sentient beings and karmic fruit.
