The wondrous marks of the ten bodies are the ten bodies of Rocana. They refer to the śrāvaka, pratyekabuddha, bodhisattva, and tathāgata bodies, and the bodies of Dharma, wisdom, space, karmic retribution, sentient beings, and lands. Moreover, the Tathāgata body itself possesses ten kinds: bodhi, vow, transformation, power, adornment, majesty, mind-made, merit, Dharma, and wisdom. These ten wondrous responses manifest with sovereignty like a jewel reflecting colors, which is the wondrous function of the inconceivable knowledge of all modes. The substance of wisdom is originally inherent and is manifested according to the exhaustion of hindrances. Having undergone cultivation perfumed by both provisional and real wisdom as well as great compassion, its efficacious function is suddenly manifested. Although not yet entirely like that of a buddha, he partially obtains this function—namely, manifesting immeasurable bodies from a single body. The Avataṃsaka says: 'Although not yet possessing all-knowledge completely, one has already obtained the sovereign power of the Tathāgata.'
