In the preceding ground, one skillfully penetrated great bodhi, left worldly characteristics, attained the noble nature free from arising, broke through the obstacle of the nature of ordinary beings, and realized the one true dharmadhātu; hence it says "differentiated nature entering into identity." In this ground, even identity contrasted with difference is unattainable; hence it says "the nature of identity being also extinguished." For if one perceives identity, that is precisely termed defilement. Having transcended dualities, it is therefore named freedom from defilement. Furthermore, this ground realizes supreme tathatā, leaves the obstacle of wrong practice, and śīla-pāramitā becomes predominant; what is manifested by natural morality is named supreme. By practicing the vast ten wholesome actions with the four immeasurable minds, accomplishing natural morality, being equal and without difference regarding natural grave offenses and censured offenses, this is also called "differentiated nature entering into identity"; when the nature of severance is also absent, only then is one free from subtle defilements of breaking precepts, named "the nature of identity being also extinguished," entitled the Ground of Freedom from Defilement.
