Starting from dry wisdom and ending with Wonderful Enlightenment, combining the singular and compound there are twelve in all. The singular are seven: dry wisdom, heat, summit, forbearance, worldly foremost, Equal Enlightenment, and Wonderful Enlightenment. The compound are five: faith, abidings, practices, dedications, and grounds; because each individual stage contains ten within itself, they are named compound. The twelfth stage is Wonderful Enlightenment, named the Unexcelled Being. The Unexcelled Being has nothing left to sever; the Unexcelled Being has none superior to it, like the full moon on the fifteenth night without blemish; hence it is said, 'one only then exhausts Wonderful Enlightenment and accomplishes the unexcelled path.' Its essence is Mahāparinirvāṇa, complete with the three virtues, named the secret treasury.
