增進即漸次也，故前文云「從此漸次安立聖位。」五十五位者，信、住、行、向、地為五十，乾慧、煖、頂、忍、世第一為五。菩提是果，即等妙二覺也。五十五心名之曰路，由此能到菩提果故，即菩提之路也。

'Gradations' (advancing increase) refers to the gradual sequence; hence the preceding text stated, 'from this gradual sequence establish the sacred stages.' The fifty-five stages are: faith, abidings, practices, dedications, and grounds making fifty; dry wisdom, heat, summit, forbearance, and worldly foremost making five. Bodhi is the fruit, namely the two enlightenments of Equal and Wonderful. The fifty-five minds are called the 'path' because one is able to reach the fruit of bodhi through them; that is, the path of bodhi.
