8.305

幼小曰童，情昧曰蒙。阿難自鄙無有大智，願垂開發也。諸持戒者，若聞因果虛妄猶如空華，則持戒何益？苟示決定義門，必令謹潔無犯。

Being young is called 'childish'; being dim of mind is called 'ignorance.' Ānanda humbles himself as lacking great wisdom, wishing that [the Buddha] will deign to awaken and open him. As for all who hold precepts, if they heard that cause and effect are false like flowers in space, what benefit would there be in holding precepts? If he shows the definitive gate of meaning, it will certainly cause them to be cautious and pure without violation.
