8.35

毒蛇、怨賊能殺生身，不損法體。婬欲能損法身慧命，真修行者必須永斷。《涅槃經》說「菩薩觀愛有九種過患：一如債有餘；二如羅剎女婦；三如妙華莖有毒蛇；四如惡食性所不便而強食之；五如婬女；六如摩樓迦子；七如瘡中瘜肉；八如暴風；九如彗星。」下文云「十方如來色目行婬同名欲火，菩薩觀欲如避火坑。」

"Poisonous snakes and bitter enemies can kill the physical body, but they cannot harm the Dharma-body. Lust can harm the Dharma-body and the life of wisdom; a true practitioner must cut it off forever. The Nirvāṇa Sūtra states: 'The bodhisattva contemplates sexual craving as having nine kinds of faults and perils: first, like an outstanding debt; second, like a rākṣasī wife; third, like a poisonous snake on the stem of a wondrous flower; fourth, like unwholesome food contrary to one's constitution that one is forced to eat; fifth, like a courtesan; sixth, like a māluka plant; seventh, like proud flesh in an ulcer; eighth, like a violent gale; ninth, like a comet.' The subsequent text states: 'The tathāgatas of the ten directions describe the practice of lust unanimously as fire of desire; bodhisattvas regard desire as though avoiding a pit of fire.'"
