Directly revealing the manifestation of the fruit. Proceeding from cause to fruit, and from within to without. Chattering, shuddering, and trembling are the sounds made when enduring cold—namely, the eight cold hells. The Abhidharmakośa says: 'Arbuda is translated as "blisters"; Nirarbuda is translated as "bursting blisters"—these two are named after their appearance. Aṭaṭa, Hahava, and Huhuva—these three are named after sounds. Utpala and the other two are like blue, white, and red lotuses—these three are named after colors, because as the cold becomes increasingly severe, the color of the body becomes like them.' 'Encroach upon each other' means violation and oppression.
