"Fifth is the habit of deceit, mutually enticing, arising from mutual teasing and leading on without stop. Thus, there are cords, wooden pillories, strangulation, and cages. Just as water soaking a field causes grasses and trees to grow, as the two habits prolong each other, there are thus events such as handcuffs, fetters, cangues, locks, whips, sticks, clubs, and truncheons. Therefore, all the tathāgatas of the ten directions characterize treacherous villainy unanimously as 'slanderous thieves.' Bodhisattvas regard deceit with terror, as one fears jackals and wolves."
