9.147

此經家敘。佛答阿難七趣已竟，慶喜既默，眾又無辭，合住說法，故云將罷法座。然禪發境界非一切智孰能知之，若不與說，末代修行遇此難敵，故再凭几顯悲深也。

This is the narrator's account. The Buddha had finished answering Ānanda regarding the seven destinies. Ānanda having fallen silent and the assembly also having no further words, it was fitting to conclude the exposition of the Dharma; hence it says 'about to leave the Dharma seat.' However, who but the Omniscient One could know the spheres that arise in dhyāna? If he did not explain them, cultivators in the final age encountering them would find them hard to withstand. Thus, leaning on the table once again reveals the depth of his compassion.
