'Perception' means grasping images, meaning that one must first establish the boundary marks of an object before one can subsequently generate various names and words. Thoughts and conditions not ceasing is called 'floating and moving'; 'thought' is just 'perception'. When floating perceptions are removed, the contemplating mind becomes purer, hence it says 'like the removal of dust and dirt.' 'A single category of birth and death' refers to the category of the aggregate of volitional formations. 'Beginning and end' means root and branch. Because volitional formations are a continuous flow, and flowing is arising and ceasing: now without the obstruction of perception, root and branch both appear, meaning the substance of arising and ceasing is exposed. The contemplating mind clearly sees it, hence it says 'fully illuminated.'
