This is the fulfillment of time. Master and disciples assembling together, preaching and listening brought to completion, it is comprehensively called "at one time". "One" distinguishes it from other times; "time" is provisionally established in accordance with worldly conventions. The Tathāgata's preachings of sūtras had immeasurable times, which cannot be individually cited; with one word briefly encompassing all, it merely says "at one time". The Nirvāṇa Sūtra says: "At one time on the bank of the Ganges," and so forth. Furthermore, time divisions in the various quarters are long or short without uniformity; hence it merely says "at one time". If explained according to the Dharma-meaning, it is the time of preaching and listening when mind and object vanish, principle and wisdom fuse, ordinary and noble are identical (tathatā), and origin and inception unite—the time when all such pairs of dharmas are one.
