"If one comprehends the real and the false and penetrates the nature of the dharmadhātu, seeing, the conditions of seeing, and the objective realm present before one are originally our enlightened luminosity; one will never mistakenly cling to the root of birth and death as real. Because of failing to discern this and mistaking the false for the true, one dwells long in saṃsāra and does not accomplish the noble fruit. Although Ānanda had also attained the first fruit, because it was not ultimate, it is said that he had not attained it. If understood in terms of the Great Vehicle, there is no confusion on this."
