10.84

This person is unable to discern decisively within his perception; when someone asks him, he invariably responds with deceitful cleverness and evasive answers. Speaking of 'deathless', according to the *Vibhāṣā*: 'Non-Buddhists conceptualize heaven as permanently abiding and call it "deathless", conceptualizing that through unconfused answers one can be born in that heaven. If one does not truly know and yet recklessly answers, one fears falling into prevarication. Therefore, when asked, one replies that it is a secret that should not be fully spoken of, or gives indefinite answers. The Buddhadharma rebukes this as true prevarication.'
