The heavenly drum has no thought, yet sounds in accordance with persons; the ocean tide has no intention, yet unfailingly keeps its time. This represents compassion without conditions (anālambana-karuṇā), which responds to capacity and speaks without waiting to be requested. "Form" refers to the eleven kinds of form. "Mind" refers to the eight consciousness mind-kings. "All conditions" refers generally to form and mind, or specifically to the dharmas non-concomitant with mind. "Mental factors" refers to the fifty-one mental factors. "All conditioned dharmas" refers to the six unconditioned dharmas. These five categories comprising the one hundred dharmas encompass all dharmas completely; all are manifested from the true mind, just as a mirror manifests images—never separate from the mirror and devoid of any graspable substance.
