The Buddha told Pūrṇa: "Suppose a confused person in a village mistakes south for north. Does this confusion exist because of confusion, or does it emerge because of awakening?" Pūrṇa said: "Such a confused person neither has it because of confusion nor because of awakening. Why is that? Confusion originally has no root; how could it be because of confusion? Awakening does not produce confusion; how could it be because of awakening?"
