The awakened person is a good friend. Pointing it out is teaching and practice. Causing him to awaken is the tathāgatas of the ten directions. Pūrṇa Maitrāyaṇīputra had doubts regarding the Dharma, but had a clear understanding regarding the analogy; therefore the Buddha posed the question through the analogy to make him understand that the Dharma is like the analogy.
