4.272

When a person awakened from a dream recalls matters in the dream, though he may speak of them, obtaining them is certainly impossible, because the realm dreamed of is completely nonexistent. When one who has attained bodhi looks back at the time of the cause, having eliminated all deluded afflictions, though speaking [of it] is permissible, there is ultimately no entity that can be cut off or eliminated; so what would one take as delusion to infer its cause? The Awakening of Faith says: "When the mind's awakening first arises, the mind has no initial characteristic." It also says: "Because the four characteristics are fundamentally equal, they are identical with the one awakening."
