When discrimination does not arise, the boundaries of before and after are severed; when even the true is not discerned, where can the false be established? Therefore, within the true and constant nature, seeking coming and going, delusion and awakening, death and life, absolutely nothing can be found. This, then, is the single characteristic of equality: delusion and awakening are both eliminated, and saṃsāra and nirvāṇa are like yesterday's dream. Thus Master Zhao said: "One who observes dharmas without maintaining non-existence can be said to see the true reality of dharmas."
