Fifth, the true realization of turning hearing inward. In sequence, this section should properly follow Aniruddha, because it concerns the ear faculty among the six sense faculties. Here, because its meaning of perfect penetration is broad, its joyous expounding continues, and the imperial selection forms an unbroken chain, it is spoken of last to indicate that it has reached the utmost truth. If it had been spoken of previously, all the Buddhas would have emitted light to rejoice in and praise this gate, and then the other sages would seem devoid of merit. If they did not rejoice in and praise it, it would not manifest that this gate is true perfect penetration. Therefore, the present heading is 'the true [realization] of turning hearing inward.'
