"Ānanda! Such ten kinds of states manifested in dhyāna are all caused by the mutual interaction of the aggregate of conception and the application of mind; hence these matters appear. Sentient beings are stubborn and deluded, and do not reflect upon themselves; encountering these causes and conditions, they are deluded and do not recognize them, saying they have mounted to sagehood. Having formed a major lie, they fall into the Relentless Hell."
