This directly explains turning the mind. Because it is within the dhyāna of the Summit of Existence, it is called the 'mind of renunciation'. Bringing forth uncontaminated wisdom, one頓breaks through the thirty-six grades of innately operative afflictions of the four levels of the upper realm, and then realizes the stage of non-learning. Yet one also turns one's mind toward the Mahāyāna path, and no longer enters into the spheres of space, consciousness, and so forth, because the defilements of the upper levels no longer exist. However, turning the mind to enter the Great [Vehicle] has depth and shallowness, solely in accordance with the depth or shallowness of breaking through defilements. This class consists still of anāgāmins who delight in wisdom; hence they attain the light of wisdom with perfect penetration and then depart from the dust-realms.
