「遮三障」等者，以遮惡不起，是消除義，故經云「消除三障無諸惡」。持善不失，是調伏義，故經云「五眼具足成菩提」。

Regarding "warding off the three obstacles" and so on, warding off evil so that it does not arise is the meaning of eliminating; hence the sūtra says, "eliminating the three obstacles, free from all evils." Maintaining good so that it is not lost is the meaning of subduing; hence the sūtra says, "endowed with the five eyes, attaining bodhi."
