As for 'taking person and teaching as the name': 'invoking' is the capacity to stimulate and 'Avalokiteśvara' is the capacity to respond, which is the gist of stimulus and response. 'Eliminating and subduing poisonous afflictions' clarifies its power and function, which is the function of rescuing from peril and extracting suffering.
