"Invocation through practice": although one does not set a conscious aim, because one's practice is pure, it naturally stimulates the sage; pure practice itself is the invocation, hence it is called invocation through practice. Invocation through realization is also like this. "The buddha-mindfulness samādhi": as in the Pratyutpanna-samādhi Sūtra, when the samādhi is accomplished, one sees the buddhas of the ten directions standing in space, and so forth. This means that although one does not set a conscious aim, upon realizing the principle, one naturally sees Avalokiteśvara. The stage of invocation through practice is at contemplative practice; the stage of invocation through realization is at the [purification of the] six faculties and the first abiding stage. "Setting a conscious aim" applies across both shallow and deep stages.
