辨體者。欲之所須有二：自有僧、私同須，如說戒、自恣等；以佛制有時限，一切同遵，若叛有罪。自有單僧須者，如受戒、捨懺等；僧須我和，我不必須，佛不正制也。

Regarding identifying the essence: that which is required for chanda is twofold: first, there are those required jointly by both the saṃgha and the individual, such as upoṣadha recitation and pravāraṇā; because the Buddha instituted them with fixed times, all must observe them equally, and if one rebels against them, there is an offense. Second, there are those required solely by the saṃgha, such as upasampadā, relinquishment, and confession; the saṃgha requires my harmony, but I do not necessarily require it myself, as the Buddha did not directly mandate it [for the individual].
