The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya has five kinds: First, familiar dwelling in bodily and verbal acts. Bodily familiar dwelling means sharing a seat or bed with paṇḍakas, men, boys, or disciples, sleeping together, eating from the same vessel, alternately wearing clothes, and going out and entering together. Verbal familiar dwelling means speaking with one another with an afflicted mind. Both bodily and verbal means engaging in both actions together. Furthermore, stretching out the hand to a nun or woman to sit inside, handing incense, flowers, and melons to one another, running errands for them; the rest is as stated before. Second, frequently violating the precepts of the five groups. Third, entering villages too early and leaving too late; making friends with evil people, such as thieves, robbers, and gamblers; frequenting the places of widows, mature maidens, prostitutes, paṇḍakas, bhikṣuṇīs of evil reputation, and śrāmaṇerīs. Fourth, fond of litigations and accusing one another, which has five aspects: first, conceited; second, coarse and wretched in this nature; third, meaningless speech; fourth, untimely speech; fifth, not associating with good people. Fifth, showing deference to young bhikṣus, ordaining young disciples, and serving them in the manner that a disciple serves a teacher. Regarding the above five kinds, if after bhikṣus admonish him three times in private one by one he does not stop, the saṃgha performs a four-motion karman of censure to subdue him.
