常恨前代諸師，所流遺記，止論文疏廢立，問答要抄；至於顯行世事，方軌來蒙者，百無一本。時有銳懷行事，而文在義集；或復多列游辭，而逗機未足；或單題羯磨，成相莫宣。依文用之，不辨前事；並言章碎亂，未可披撿。所以尋求者，非積學不知；領會者，非精鍊莫悉。

I have constantly lamented that among the bequeathed records handed down by masters of previous generations, they merely discussed the abrogations and establishments in texts and commentaries, or compiled essential notes of questions and answers; as for making manifest and practicing worldly affairs so as to guide future beginners, there was not one text in a hundred. At times, some harboured an earnest intent toward practical affairs, yet their texts were subsumed within doctrinal compilations; or else they copiously listed superfluous phrasing while failing to address the trainees' capacity; or they simply listed the titles of karmans without expounding their completed forms. If one applied them according to the text, one could not resolve the matter at hand; furthermore, the phrasing was fragmented and disorderly, making them unsuitable for consultation. Therefore, those who searched through them could not know them without accumulated study; and those who sought to comprehend them could not fully understand them without refined mastery.
