Tenth, explanation according to the text. In the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya, foods are the five kinds of bhojanīya: boiled rice, dried boiled rice, parched barley flour, fish, and meat. The five kinds of khādanīya are as above. The five kinds of lehya are clarified butter, oil, fresh butter, honey, and rock sugar. If not given food and one takes it oneself and puts it into one's mouth, swallow by swallow is a pāyattika. For improper-time and seven-day [medicines], exceeding the limit is also a pāyattika. Without reason, not formally receiving food throughout life is a duṣkṛta. Non-offenses: taking clean water and tooth-sticks. If one has not formally received clarified butter or oil and instills it into the nose, and it comes out together with saliva, otherwise it is not an offense. If when begging for food, a bird holds food in its beak, or the wind blows [food] and it drops into the bowl, remove this food; if it can be removed even to the extent of a fingernail, the rest is not an offense.
