Seventh, viewing the mind in relation to the objective realm. As the *Vinayamātṛkā* says: 'A transgression must rely on a realm, and involves the mind to establish karma; for minds have degrees of intensity and realms have superiority and inferiority.' Or mind and realm are both grave: killing a human thinking them to be human; or the realm is grave while the mind is light: [killing] a human thinking them to be a non-human; or the realm is light while the mind is grave: [killing] a non-human thinking them to be human. The treatise applies generally to all and is not limited to one precept. Within sexual misconduct there is inherently light and grave: animals versus humans; among humans, there are lay and monastic; among lay, there are those who observe precepts and those who break precepts; among the monastic five assemblies, those who observe precepts and those who break precepts; up to noble persons. The gravity is identical, but the retribution differs. Second, the gravity of theft: devas and humans, up to noble persons; among the distinctions of the Three Jewels, saṃgha property is the gravest. Third, the precept against killing: the *Satyasiddhiśāstra* says, as stated in the *Ṣaḍdharmasaṃgraha-abhidharma*, killing a person of wrong views is lighter than killing insects and ants, because such a person defiles the world and causes much harm. Fourth, the precept against lying: speaking to a layperson is grave, speaking to a monastic is light.
