比丘尼眾，細行眾多。同大僧者，如上所列；有無輕重，隨事已分。今簡取唯別者，共為此科；使臨事即披，不事浮漫也。所以在沙彌後者，《智論》云：尼得無量律儀故，次應比丘後；佛以儀法不便，故在沙彌後。

The bhikṣuṇī assembly has numerous detailed practices. Those that are identical with the fully ordained monks are as listed above; their presence or absence, lightness or gravity, have already been differentiated according to the matter at hand. Now, selecting only those that are distinct, we combine them into this section, so that when encountering practical affairs one may immediately consult it without dealing with vague generalities. As for why it is placed after the śrāmaṇeras: the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa* states that because bhikṣuṇīs attain immeasurable moral codes, they should properly follow the bhikṣus; but because the Buddha found the ritual etiquette inconvenient, they were placed after the śrāmaṇeras.
