The method of demarcating the three small boundaries is divided into three sections: First, explaining the distance for assembling the saṃgha: This arises due to impediments and is not the same as assembling the saṃgha for a great boundary. Therefore, the Buddha accommodated this with an expedient allowance. As in the Samantapāsādikā: Assembling the saṃgha within a measure of seven stones should be permissible. Thus, where the sense differs in that text, compared with this Dharmaguptaka Vinaya there is no difference. All refer to being in an araṇya. If it is in a settlement, the text does not allow it, because an araṇya is open and exposed, so incoming danger is easily seen.
