Seventh, the single motion (jñapti) to enter the assembly. The Vinaya states: That instructing master returns to the saṃgha, behaving with standard deportment, and stands at a distance within reach of an outstretched hand (this follows the open-air ordination platform of India, hence it is within an outstretched hand; if under cover, it depends on the circumstances). He should make the motion: "Let the venerable saṃgha listen! That so-and-so seeks to receive the upasampadā precepts from the upādhyāya so-and-so. If the time has arrived for the saṃgha, may the saṃgha give consent: I have finished questioning him; permit me to bring him forward. Such is the motion." After making the motion, he must not leave the saṃgha; if inside a hall, he goes to the inner threshold. Raising his hand, he calls out, saying: "So-and-so, come! (If in an open area, he must not leave beyond the reach of an outstretched hand from the saṃgha)." When he has arrived, [the master] holds the robes and bowl for him, leads him into the saṃgha, and instructs him to prostrate at the feet of the saṃgha; arriving before the precept-master, he places his right knee on the ground and joins his palms.
