Sixth, regarding the duration of the matter: Even if the preceding matter lasts only one or two days, in all cases one must use the procedure for seven days. The Vinaya states: 'If one cannot return on the same day, one is permitted to take leave for seven days and go; even if only one day remains at the end of the varṣā, one also performs the seven-day procedure.' The establishment of the precept is fixed, and performing the procedure should be thus. If the road is short and one could return, but due to circumstances one stays overnight, one must also take leave for days.
