The Procedure of the Kaṭhina Robe
(The Vinayavibhāṣā translates it as "firm and solid": it can attract many robes, and the robes do not spoil. It is also called "difficult livelihood," because for poor people making a living is difficult, and renouncing even a small possession toward this robe brings merit surpassing the offering of a mountain-sized pile of robes as huge as Sumeru. Some also call it "firm"; some name it "sheltering cover"; an old translation calls it the "robe that rewards good and punishes evil," rewarding those of the early varṣā, while those of the late varṣā do not obtain it. It is also called the "merit robe," because when the community of the saṃgha jointly receives this robe, it brings about the merits of five privileges.)
