Where they agree with me, I strike at their main points; where they present divergent views, I reject their textual verbosity. Who would delight in textual verbosity? It is truly because circumstances allow no other choice! Why is this? If one briefly abridges and extracts merely an outline, in practical application there will constantly be inadequacies; yet if one must criticize non-urgent words at length, it would become something taboo for a manual. Now I have deliberated to strike a middle path, striving for conciseness and brevity; providing for emergencies and preparing for sudden needs, I have compiled it into three scrolls. If my thoughts are not sufficient for the affairs of the time, so that there are inherently deficiencies in the explanation of practice, then I briefly indicate the essential purpose, to be expanded upon later.
