Now, housing oneself within the ocean of the Buddha, tasting the flow of the Dharma, and numbering among the ranks of the saṃgha, practice consists of only three positions: If one reveres and upholds the correct precepts and thoroughly discerns observance and transgression, then within the middle roll, the essence and marks are fully provided. Once one's own practice is accomplished and outward virtue manifests its function, then within the upper roll, the main guidelines are preserved. As the accomplishments and marks of both self-benefiting and other-benefiting virtues have many paths, then within the lower roll, the fine details are revealed. These three illuminate practice, and no practice is not subsumed; the three rolls encompass the text, and no text is not thorough.
