Precept 17: Having an unrelated bhikṣuṇī wash and dye wool. The intention of the prohibition and the conditions of the offense are the same as the precept on washing robes. Furthermore, the Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā says: It was instituted to exalt the Buddha's Dharma. If assemblies of bhikṣuṇīs engage in the work of washing and dyeing, neglecting their proper practice, they lack proper deportment and undermine the exalted Dharma. Moreover, it puts an end to sequential conditions of evil dharmas, so that each remains pure. The rest is as in the Commentary.
