The sixty-first precept: depriving an animal of life. The Sarvāstivāda-vinaya-vibhāṣā states: "First, those who have left the household cherish the four immeasurables in their hearts; to inflict killing upon them violates compassion and lacks pity. Second, it harms oneself and torments others, is the root of birth and death, and is an evil karma obstructing the Path. Third, it is to increase faith and reverence and put an end to slander." When five conditions are fulfilled, it is the same as the earlier major killing precept.
