First, neatly wearing the antarvāsaka. The Vinaya states: 'Not neat' means wearing it too low at times, tying the belt below the navel; 'high' means pulling it up level with the knees. 'Elephant trunk' means letting one corner hang down in front. 'Tāla leaf' means letting two corners hang down in front. 'Fine pleats' means gathering it around the waist with fine pleats and folds. Regarding the characteristics of this offense: doing it intentionally constitutes an offense of duṣkṛta requiring confession; because it is done intentionally, it is an offense of improper-deportment duṣkṛta. If not done intentionally, it is a duṣkṛta. For the four assemblies of bhikṣuṇīs and the rest, it is also a duṣkṛta. Down to the end of this class, it is entirely the same as this. One does not commit an offense if: having a sore around the navel and wearing it low; having sores on the knees or calves and wearing it high; or when working or walking the path inside a saṃghārāma or outside a village.
