Next, to clarify the nine propositions of performance observance. If distinguished based on correlating matter and rule, there should indeed also be two sets of nine propositions. However, because the difference in their application does not differ in gradation, they are combined into a single set of nine propositions; it is clarified solely with respect to learnable [matters]. Now we provisionally list the propositions in the same manner as above for learnable matters under abstention observance; this differs from the preceding only in that it accords with the teaching to perform actions. Within it, three [grades] are distinguished: The first single proposition is knowing the rule (meaning knowing that constructing a hut requires requesting a ñattidutiyā-karman) and knowing the offense (that if one does not request the formal procedure, a saṃghāvaśeṣa is established). The middling grade has four propositions: knowing the rule and doubting the offense; knowing the rule and not knowing the offense; doubting the rule and knowing the offense; not knowing the rule and knowing the offense. The inferior grade has four propositions: doubting the rule and doubting the offense; doubting the rule and not knowing the offense; not knowing the rule and doubting the offense; not knowing the rule and not knowing the offense. Confusion regarding unlearnable rules also has nine propositions, as explained in the latter nine propositions of the preceding section.
