Third, the master of confession performs the single motion (jñapti). Harmonising the saṃgha, asking for chanda, and inquiring into harmony; having answered, he announces: 'May the Venerable Saṃgha listen! The bhikṣu named so-and-so deliberately kept numerous extra goods without declaring them pure, committing a niḥsargika-pāyattika; he spent the night away from his saṃghāṭī, committing a niḥsargika-pāyattika. All these robes and articles have already been relinquished to the saṃgha. Among these, he committed pāyattika offenses regarding extra items, the number of which he does not recall; one pāyattika for being away from his saṃghāṭī; and the relinquished extra goods that he committed offenses regarding have already been used up and destroyed, and there are also fundamental pāyattika offenses, the number of which he does not recall. Now he begs the saṃgha for confession. If the time has arrived for the saṃgha, may the saṃgha consent and listen: I, the bhikṣu named so-and-so, shall receive the confession of the bhikṣu named so-and-so. This is the motion.' Having made this motion, if the confessor is senior to oneself, he says: 'Yes!' If he is junior, he says: 'I may receive your confession!'
